Riyadh – Mubasher: Ziyad Bin Mohammed Al Shiha, CEO of Saudi Electricity Company, on Tuesday said that his company achieved 40% operational efficiency in its power plants, a target that the company planned to reach in 2020.

This success will motivate us to achieve more, within the company’s strategy to reduce oil consumption in electricity generating by using modern technology, as per the Saudi Vision 2030, Al Shiha said in a press release.

After reaching this percentage, we are aiming to reach 42% efficiency in 2020, Al Shiha added during the Saudi Electricity Forum 2017, held in Riyadh, from 10 to 12 October.

This step will save around 140 million barrel of fuel, Al Shiha continued, noting that the company will place 2.5 million smart counters in the market within the coming period, in an effort to provide digital services to clients.

Consumers can access 95% of the services through smartphones, as the company digitalised these services through its digital portal and phone apps, Al Shiha said.

The Saudi Electricity’s five-year plan (2017-2021) aims to reach 10.8 million customers, adding 2.3 million new subscribers, according to the press release.
